When do these items need replacing?
With batteries it can vary depending on the vehicle, its condition and the size of the battery. Batteries typically come with a 2, 3 or 5-year warranty, and should last as long as stated if cared for correctly. If a vehicle is left standing for a long time or has a power drain somewhere in the system, this can reduce battery life.

As for exhausts, they should last a lot longer and only need replacing if there is an issue such as excess noise, fumes or corrosion. Stainless steel exhausts - whilst more expensive - will last much longer than mild steel ones.
